Why You Should Take Freelance Writing into Consideration

There are lots of people who think that being a writer is easy. They think that as a writer you can just lie in bed the whole day, then a few hours or later, a new inspiration will hit you, and then you’ll be off with your new book.

Well, that is a bit far from reality. It is far from reality. There is more to writing than just writing books. There many different kinds of writing, and there are also different kinds of skills needed for each type of writing.

One may be good at writing stories, but he may be bad at writing product descriptions and vice versa. The truth is there are only a few writers who are book writers. Other writers are more focused on the technical side or blogging.

It is no wonder that they believe that they really need to work for a company. They have no intention of living a life writing books. They think that the only way for them to live as a writer is to work full-time in an office. Actually, there is a much better option: freelance writing.

What is freelance writing?

When starting as a freelance writer, and then it means that you do not work for anyone. It means that you are your own boss. You have your time all to yourself. You don’t have to wake up early each morning just so your boss won’t scold you if you come in late. You can work whenever you want. You get to set your fee, and your client cannot do anything about it.

To be a freelance writer means that you are selling your service to other people and companies that might have a good use for it.

There are lots of websites that enable freelancers to look for clients online. It is either that or clients will go looking for freelancers. By being a freelancer, you will be talking things out with your client regarding his terms and needs, and you will be negotiating a price. If he does not agree with your fee, then you are free to entertain other clients. Sounds good, doesn’t it? But that doesn’t explain why anyone should quit their job in exchange for this. Well, here are the reasons why:

You have the time to yourself

Forget about waking up early and getting to the office on time because as a freelancer, you have all the time to yourself. You get to decide whether you are going to work in the morning or the evening.

You can take care of other commitments while you are not working. You can manage your time efficiently.

You get to earn more money

Since you don’t have to work the whole day just for one job, then you have the freedom to work on other freelancing jobs. You can even work for 5 freelance jobs at a time.

You get to develop your name and brand

Whether you are aware of it or not, when you work for a company you are actually promoting their brand, but when you work for yourself, then you are promoting yourself. It means that all the hard work is finally paying off.

Since you are able to promote yourself, you are opening doors to better career opportunities.
